Mumbai: Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray today slammed the Mumbai police, especially the Anti – Terrorism Squad (ATS), for torturing Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, key accused in the September 26, 2008 Malegaon blasts.

Lambasting the police for the ‘Sadhvi’s alleged torture, the Sena chief in his editorial in party’s mouthpiece ‘Saamna’ said,” The ATS is torturing Sadhvi Pragya mentally and physically. They have even tried to molest and threatened to kill her.” The editorial further mentions that Sadhvi Pragya had stopped taking food since last eight days.

”In a way, she is preparing for her death. The Mumbai police not only put her in jail but tortured her mentally and physically. They have also insulted her penance by mixing meat and eggs in her food,” Thackeray informed in his editorial. He further questioned that if it was a political conspiracy to kill the Sadhvi in prison before elections to please the Muslims.

”The entire country is watching and introspecting on what is happening in Maharashtra. Home Minister Jayant Patil’s brave policemen are making efforts to force the Sadhvi to eat food mixed with insects,” Thackeray said, asking that was the act justified.

He further said some politicians have already maligned the image of the Sadhvi by terming the Malegaon bomb blast as an act of terrorism by some Hindu radical outfits adding that the ATS was investigating the case under ‘political pressure’. He also lamented that police would go on tormenting the Sadhvi even after the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and one day she would be hanged to death along with other accused without any inquiry.

”With this the Hindus will be shown their ‘place’ in Hindustan,” the editorial stated, adding that,” Whatever might be the verdict of the Malegaon blast trial, Hindus, though denied justice, would keep on believing that they would get justice some day.

Citing examples of several other criminals’ lifestyle in various jails in the country, the editorial added that many Pakistani accused in various blasts, along with Abu Salem are living life kingsize in jails. They are allowed to practise their religion and are even served traditional dishes on various festivals.

”They get Shirkurma (a sweet) on Id. On the other hand, police is mixing insects in Sadhvi’s food,” he said, lamenting that Hindus are not capable of taking action even after reading such gory tales.

”I am in a dilemma whether to take pity on the cowardice attitude of Hindus or to admire those who are getting what they want by dominating a considerably large community,” he said.

Giving examples of Mohammed Gazmi and Afzal Khan, who invaded India and destroyed the Hindu deities, the editorial remarked that there is no place where Hindus are ‘safe’ not even their Gods.

”What else will happen when the Home Ministry itself has given orders to prove Hindus as terrorists,” he said, warning that the ATS would have to repent for their act.Warning that the entire nation was in the clutches of Islamic terror, Mr Thackeray said the Hindus were not safe.

”We don’t want to achieve any political goal by creating hatred among religions but whether the eight crore people in Maharashtra will give remain a mute spectator to the Sadhvi’s sacrifice,” he asked, adding that the 26/11 Mumbai attacks occurred despite arrests of Sadhvi Pragya amd Lt Col Purohit. ”They both are staunch patriots. What Purohit did was for the nation’s welfare. The exploitation of Sadhvi Pragya, Purohit is a threat call to all Hindus,” the editorial added.

Taking a dig at the Nationalist Congress Party for making a reference on the Malegaon blast in its March 1 state-level convention at Nashik, he said it was foolish on part of the NCP to say that all terrorist activities have stopped after arrests of the Malegaon blasts accused.
