Intellectual bankruptcy of NCERT!

Mumbai: While already under whirlpool of controversy for its role in teaching false and distorted history through the text books, one more example of the intellectual bankruptcy of National Council For Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has come into light. According to the news published in daily issue of Maharashtra times dated 12th January, the NCERT is going to include some examples of the Hindi movies from the Mumbai film industry in the curriculum of political science to be taught to students of 12th standard.

(If the young generation was positively influenced by the movies, we would have seen a total change in the society. Have the examples of ideal personalities exhausted so that the students need to be given examples of films which promote western culture of enjoyment and immorality? This clearly indicates intellectual bankruptcy of NCERT which could give only a miniscule importance to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in their text books – Editor)
‘The young generation is very much under the influence of movies. This fact can be made use of while teaching them a subject. Thus they will be shown ready examples rather than just bookish knowledge.’ said the sources of NCERT. Thus the movie ‘Garam Hawa’ based on the background of partition has been selected complimentary to the lesson’ challenges in nation building’ while the movie ‘Janjir’ has been picked up to support the lesson ‘Deterioration of values in the society’. In all eight such movies have been selected. Hari Vasudevan of Kolkata University, Yogendra Yadav of ‘Center for studies on developmental sciences’ and Suhas Palshikar of Pune University have permitted selections of these movies.
