Would have thrashed people praising Afzal if I was in JNU : Sharad Ponkshe

Interview given during All India Theatre Conference expressing intense pro-Hindu ideology held at Thane !

Thane : It is an unwritten law that you have to love this country. One cannot do anything in the name of freedom of expression as was done at Jawaharlal Nehru University. I would have thrashed those raising slogans praising Afzal if I was at JNU or might have gone even a step further, stated Shri. Sharad Ponkshe, a renowned pro-Hindu actor and Shiv Sena leader. The members of audience requested him to speak on Nathuram for 15 minutes more than the scheduled time. Ponskhe later, gave answers, in detail, to various questions asked by audience members.

Shri. Ponskhe said

1. Nathuram was a person with patriotic views. There is need to revive the past history which has been suppressed all these years. I am not justifying assassination of Gandhi; but there is need to teach patriotism in present situation. Nathuram should have shot Jawaharlal Nehru instead of Gandhi.

2. There is unnecessary claim made about getting freedom without any struggle. In that case, what about the sacrifices of freedom fighters; did they not shed their blood? Were the British waiting with bag and baggage for our permission to leave ?

3. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had to use weapons for establishing Hindu kingdom. Have you ever heard of his going on hunger strike ? Photo of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has to be displayed in every house; only then will children and parents develop interest to know more about his history.

4. Few days prior to execution, jailer of Ambala asked Nathuram, “Why did you not shoot Nehru instead of Gandhi?” On this, Godse had said, “You finish my half completed job.”

5. I had gone for the rally of Shiv Sena Chief Balasaheb Thackeray. Since then, whenever I see saffron flag, my move changes.

6. My wife or I do not feel need to leave this country. In fact, Bharat is the only country where people of all creeds and religions feel safe.
