Satara : Adv. Varsha Deshpande stepped on the quadrangle of Shani at Solashi (Dist. Satara) on 23rd December. A representation on behalf of HJS and other like minded organizations was handed over to the resident Deputy Collector  Shri. Sanjeev Deshmukh and Upper Police Inspector Rakesh Kalasagar demanding that, since this publicity stunt to attract attention of the public by Adv. Varsha Deshpande has hurt the sentiments of the people, legal action must be taken on her.

It is stated in the representation that –

  1. So called progressives have conspired to target religious traditions under the name of freedom and equal rights to women since a lady climbed on the quadrangle of Hindus’ Holy place Shani-Shinganapur.

  2. Devout Hindus expressed their anger saying that the Code of conduct and rituals in Hindu religion are traditional and hence it is the issue of their faith. The atheist and calling herself as the promoter of freedom to women (Stree-muktivadi) has no right to interfere in religious affairs. Since this act was performed in police protection, a question was raised whether the police administration also intends to victimize Hindus. While talking to the media representatives devout Hindus said,

  1. These so called promoters of Stree-mukti have nothing to do with the issues of women; this is only a publicity stunt !

  2. No other religion gives as much freedom to their women as is given in Hindu religion. On the contrary some rituals like ‘Oti bharne’, worshipping God and so many other rituals are meant for women only. Women belonging to other religions are not even allowed to enter their places of worship. In such cases will Adv. Deshpande dare to enter such places ? Or her Stree-mukti has religious constraints ?

  3. Under the name of being progressive if such acts denigrating Dharma are going to take place and if the administration is going to support them then Hindus also will oppose it at the cost of their life, expressed devout Hindus.

  4. Adv. Deshpande, a member of the State Commission breaking the tradition of the temple with the assistance of police, is an irrational act. Instead of holding discussions, to act like this is a breach of trust with regard to Hindus. This is unbecoming of a person in a constitutional position.

  5. Adv. Deshpande’s act is inappropriate with respect to religious aspect; but it is also improper for the point of maintaining religious harmony in the district. Therefore the administration should take immediate action on Adv. Deshpande and those officers assisting her in this act, demanded Mrs. Rupa Mahadik of HJS.

The delegation giving representation comprised Sau. Rupa Mahadik of HJS, Shri. Mangesh Nikam, ex.-councilor Sau. Leela Nimbalkar, Shri. Jitendra Wadkar of VHP, Shri. Mukundrao Pandit of Bajrang Dal, Shri. Datta Sanas, Shri. Umesh Gandhi of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, Shri. Nimish Shah, Deputy City-chief, Shri. Shailendra Sawant, Shri. Gitish Pawar, Shri. Avinash Lembhe of Shanaishwar Devasthan and devotees of Shani dev.
