Karwar (Karnataka): Sri Rama Sena president Pramod Mutalik has threatened to attack the illegal slaughterhouses in Bhatkal if the district administration and the police failed to stop their operation. He has also urged the authorities to stop cow slaughter during Bakrid.

Submitting a memorandum, addressed to Home minister, through Uttara Kannada DC, the firebrand activist urged the district administration not to harass those trying to stop illegal trafficking of cattle in the district.

Addressing mediapersons later, Mutalik charged the government with failing implement Anti-Cow Slaughter Act (1956). He claimed that thousands of cows are being illegally transported to Bhatkal for slaughter. "The police and the district administration are afraid of a particular community whose members resort to violence if the law is enforced," he alleged.

Criticizing the BJP for forgetting its promise to ban cow slaughter once it assumed power, Mutalik said BJP is busy in appeasement the community and allowing cow slaughter in the state. Claiming that there are more than 250 illegal slaughterhouses in Uttara Kannada district alone, he said SRS activists would attack them if the police failed to close them before Bakrid.

Meanwhile, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) submitted a separate memorandum to the DC, giving him the list of the places in Bhatkal where over 1,000 cattle were "allegedly" kept for slaughter during Bakrid. VHP has asked the DC and the police to immediately raid the areas and avoid untoward incidents. Office-bearers of VHP, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Marwadi Association have jointly submitted the memorandum.
