Hyderabad: Activists of Bajrang Dal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Tuesday staged a three-hour demonstration near Gandhi Medical College and Hospital over conversions.

According to medicos, two persons – Yadigiri and Kumar, were found with religious literature and were allegedly trying to persuade people to convert. Hospital staff noticed them moving near the out-patient building and emergency ward.

Soon word got out and the activists of the Sangh parivar outfits stormed the hospital in large numbers, beat up the two persons and held demonstration with flags and placards. The activists also gave a representation to Gandhi Medical College principal as well as the hospital superintendent to look into the issue and prevent similar occurings in the future.

Gandhi Hospital in-charge superintendent Dr B Balanageshwari constituted a six-member committee, comprising professors and paramedics, to probe the issue. The committee would submit a report to the government.

"There are allegations that staff nurses are also involved in conversions. Two post-graduate doctors are also involved along with Prof David Raj," AP Junior Doctors’ Association (APJUDA) president Dr G Raghu Kishore said.

Police rushed to the spot fearing trouble and dispersed the mob and let off the two persons. Though no case has been booked, the Chilkalguda police said that after an inquiry, if needed, a case would be booked.
