Missionary realises Hinduism and quits mission

A Mission in USA sent Father Rev. Aver to India with an aim to spread Christianity. Accordingly, he started his task from Pune and its surrounding areas. Once when he was preaching by criticizing Hindu religion and praising Christian religion, Pandit (Scholar) Seetaramji Goswami told him that without having any knowledge of Hindu religion, he has no right to criticize it. He further advised Rev. Father to study Hindu religion before saying anything against it.
Rev. Father agreed, he learnt Sanskrit and Marathi languages and studied Hindu scriptures. He developed immense faith in Hinduism. He informed his Mission through which he came down to India that there were hundreds of Jesus in India meaning there have been many saints in India and there was no need to spread Christianity in India. He wrote to them that he had studied the Hindu scriptures thoroughly and he had completely stopped the work of ‘dharma-prasar’. He also informed his Mission that he was resigning from the Mission. He had realized that India is an unfathomable ocean of the true religion i.e. the ‘Absolute Truth (Sat)’. He also conveyed his wish to donate his wealth to Indian Historical Research Institution to help the institution to publish translations of such great books. He further wrote that the only differentiation between human beings and other species is intelligence. Otherwise there was no difference. The religions which retard/ arrest human being’s intelligence, deprive them of their basic right to think and understand or in short, take away the freedom of intelligence are not in the interest of human kind but are detrimental to their development. He therefore, disapproved of all such religions in the world like Christianity, Islam, Jew, Parsi and Buddhists etc. as all of them seize human intelligence. But Hindu religion is the only one that gives the freedom to human beings to use their intelligence. Christian, Islam, Jew and Buddhism are all such religions that indulge in their spread. But in Hindu religion there is total freedom of thinking. Therefore, there are many sects like the Shaivas, Vaishnavas, Shaktas etc. Everyone tries to prove superiority of one over the other but Hindu religion encompasses them all. This religion of the sages in India is eternal. All other religions can blend well with Hindu religion. Hindu religion is the ocean encompassing all religions. Treatment meted out to the tribals under British Rule was very vindictive. Fortunately, Mr. Ellwyn, a renowned missionary brought this hypocrisy to light. He was a Zoologist but came to India as a missionary. Later his soul did not allow him to carry on this work so he gave up. Mr. Ellwyn was pained to see people converted to Christianity, his conscience did not permit him to carry on his mission and he undertook the path of peace.
