Christian Missionaries beaten up for misguiding Hindus

Panvel, Maharashtra: Christian missionaries trying to misguide Hindus at Palaspe village were beaten up by staunch Hindus. They, however, went to the police station and lodged false complaints. Police started harassing Hindus under the pretext of interrogation without carrying out proper investigations.

Palaspe village on Mumbai- Goa Highway was visited by missionaries from ‘Believers Church Bible College’. Some of them went door to door for their mission of spreading Christianity whereas some distributed pamphlets and books standing on the roads. They were distributing such material by making appeal to people or using even force. They were advising people to visit the church and pray to Jesus following their advice so that Jesus can destroy their distress and obstacles.

In this village, missionaries are carrying out activities through a building. A lady member from the group of missionaries advised one Hindu youth to visit church and asked him to make certain prayers. She also took him along with her when she went to Vasai for propagation of Christianity. After few days, the youth returned to the village; but he started having hallucinations like seeing a cat, imagining indecent incidents. He also started taking liquor and became addicted. Residents of the village were still discussing the issue when these missionaries visited their village and openly started propagation of Christianity. A few persons tried to stop them; but they paid no heed. Finally, staunch Hindus beat them up. In this connection, four persons have been admitted to a local hospital.

Abraham Mathai, secretary of all India Christian Council has held Bajarang Dal responsible without having any proof. It has been noted in the complaint that the assault was made by unknown persons. No arrests have so far been made in this regard. Many churches are being constructed in Panvel area. Locals are wondering that when Christian population is so less in and around Panvel, why so many churches are being constructed. In Palaspe village, Christian population is not even 1 % and residents do not want church. It is therefore; felt that Government should look into the matter before it is too late. People feel that such forced conversions should be immediately stopped.
