Hindu detained in jail under false charges is yet to get bail

Issue related to riots in Bangladesh

Dhaka – A Hindu was falsely accused of criticizing Islam and a mob of about 20,000 fanatics burnt more than 30 houses and shops of Hindus at Thakurpara in Rangapur District of Bangladesh. Police had arrested a Hindu named Titu Roy in this connection. The Court granted him police custody and the period of police custody expired on 18th November. Police, therefore, presented him in Court; but since it was a Saturday, neither Judge nor advocates were available in Court on that day and Titu Roy could not apply for bail.  On the following day, Court extended his police custody by 5 days. Advocate Ravindra Ghosh, the Chief of ‘Bangladesh Minority Watch’ tried for his bail but he didn’t succeed. 7 advocates were ready to help him but nobody could be present since it was a Saturday. It exhibits discriminatory treatment meted out to Hindus even by judicial system of Bangladesh.
