HJS delegation meets MTV Splitsvilla anchor Nikhil Chinapa, demands to stop vulgar presentation and preserve Indian culture

Panaji (Goa) – The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s (HJS) delegation met MTV Splitsvilla reality show anchor Nikhil Chinapa on 5th
September and demanded to stop vulgar presentation in the said reality show and preserve Indian culture. Anchor Nikhil Chinapa requested HJS’ delegation to put their demands to the producer of the show, as he being an actor on the show. The HJS delegation comprised of Dr. Manoj Solanki, the Goa State Co-ordinator of HJS and other members.

Through the memorandum, HJS has appealed to MTV to not only think of profits and TRP of the channel but also preserve Indian Culture and help in Nation-Building while telecasting shows like MTV Splitsvilla, but Anchor Nikhil Chinapa refused to accept the memorandum. The HJS had earlier demanded, through a memorandum, to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to ban MTV Splitsvilla and have censorship for TV programs. The reason being the impact of such reality shows is so much that it erodes culture and morality of our youth, who are the future responsible citizens of this country. In this show, there are fights, jealousy, hatred, friendship, backstabbing events, etc. which send negative messages. One can imagine the mindset of the participants from the views expressed by Scarlett Rose, Goa's upcoming model and current heartthrob of the popular MTV India on facebook and the ‘Goa Chronicle’ website. Her concept of freedom is to be allowed to wear short skirts, strappy dress and bikinis. This mindset is western and has no place in our Indian culture and society.

Panaji (Goa), 1st September – Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) demands a ban on MTV’s ‘Splitsvilla’ reality show  as it erodes culture and morality of Indian youth and also demands censorship for TV Shows as everything goes on air without proper checks and edits.

MTV Splitsvilla, is an Indian television reality show that airs on MTV India. The reality show series is based on the American dating reality show ‘Flavour of Love’. The reality show revolves around young boys and girls who try to secure a place in Splitsvilla which is a "Villa". It's a 'hunt for love' show where boys and girls compete in tasks to stay in the competition and mingle with the contestants to find love. In the end, a boy and a girl are crowned the winners of Splitsvilla (they are a couple.) There are a lots of fights, jealousy, hatred, friendship, backstabbing and love when all these 16 wild contestants get together. There is also a King and Queen that have dumping powers. 3 million youth are following the show. As per reports, this show ran into many controversies like sexual exploitation and racial slur.

The impact of such reality shows is tremendous, so much so that it erodes culture and morality of our youth, who are the future responsible citizens of this country. One can realise the mindset of the participants from the views expressed by Scarlett Rose, Goa's upcoming model and current heartthrob of the popular MTV India, on Facebook and the ‘Goa Chronicle’ website. Her concept of freedom is to be allowed to wear short skirts, strapy dress and bikinis. This mindset is western and has no place in our Indian culture and society. One can also judge the reputation of the show from the fact that pornography star Sunny Leone has launched  ‘MTV Splitsvilla – Season 7’ this year. This is a social and a national issue which needs to be taken seriously and tackled with. Our country is plagued with the problem of rape and sexual harassment of women and such programs add fuel to fire.
