GMSDM protest against Govt apathy in conducting Temple trustees’ meetings

Panaji (Goa): The Government and the police machinery has failed to apprehend the accused in the temple thefts. Temple trustees are scared due to the rising temple thefts. Despite this, the Government is just making a show of convening a meeting of temple trustees. This has shown apathy of Government in solving the grave problem of temple thefts and idol desecrations incidences. Gomantak Mandir and Dhaarmik Sanstha Mahasangh protests against this stand of the Government.

North Goa District Collector’s office convened a meeting of temple trustees at Panaji on 12th January at 4 p.m. to find a solution to save the temples. But many of the temple trustees in Bardez taluka were informed about the said meeting at 2 p.m. on the same day and also meeting spot was told to be SDPO’s office of Mapusa. Respecting the invitation of the Government many temple trustees remained present at the SDPO’s office at 4 p.m.; but SDPO  Mr. Redkar informed them that the said meeting was convened at the District Collector’s office in North Goa and not at his office. Thereafter the temple trustees present there were brought to the venue of the meeting by a police bus.  The meeting was going on in a room where there was no place for the temple trustees even to stand. Annoyed by this situation many of the temple trustees preferred to leave the venue. This incident was brought to the notice of the Mahasangh by Mr. Balram Gaokar, trustee of Sree Sai Mandir, Kanka, Bardez and other temple trustees. They also demanded action against this injustice. The Mahasangh has taken note of this and hence made a protest.
