O Hindus, join Gomantak Mandir and Dhaarmik Sanstha Mahasangh established to save temples !

Margao (Goa): Not satisfied with the assurances of the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat and upset by back to back robberies of temples, the Gomantak Mandir and Religious Institutions Federation and the Fatorda MLA, Mr Damodar Naik have come out strongly with the MLA even calling the police machinery “defunct,” while speaking to the media, on Monday.

“The police department has become defunct. Time and again I am asking the department to deploy more forces in this commercial capital of the state. But to no avail. This year there have been 61 robberies, but still nobody is taking it seriously. The Murida temple is in a residential area. And before that a flat of Mr Amonkar was broken into. Both are in thickly populated areas. And, today the Mulvir temple has been broken into. Such things should not happen and I condemn it,” Mr Naik told media vowing to push this issue to the hilt and expose the lackadaisical attitude of the police as far as the general law and order situation in the state and especially in the South was concerned.

The federation too submitted a memorandum to the South Goa Collector, G P Naik asking for action against the culprits involved in the robberies and the desecrations in the temple.

This is the land of Parshuram, but after 2004 more than 50 images have been broken into. Plus there are thefts. But still the government has not woken up and is not successful in making arrests and stopping them,” said Mr Arjun Naik in his submission to the Collector.

The federation went on to say that in remote areas temples were being broken into but now in populated areas too temples were being broken into and people were being robbed, demanding immediate arrests of the culprits.

It may be recalled that the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat called a meeting of government officers including Chief Secretary, police chiefs, district magistrate of South and North and others to discuss measures to prevent temple thefts and initiate an action plan. This meeting will be attended by the under fire Home Minister, Mr Ravi Naik.

Media reports inform that the survey to collect desired information about temples as well as study on the vulnerable temples initiated by the South Goa district administration on January 3 is nearing completion.
