HJS’ Surajya Abhiyan demands action against blinding headlights

Mumbai : Vehicles are increasingly being outfitted with blinding headlights. This has led to accidents and deaths too. Therefore, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s Surajya Abhiyan has demanded that the police should initiate stringent action against those who play with the lives of people by using such dangerous lights on vehicles. Surajya Abhiyaan has written a complaint to the Maharashtra state Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis about this.

Coordinator of Surajya Abhiyaan Shri. Abhishek Murukate said, “It is illegal to modify lights in such manner. If a bright light shines on the eyes of the driver or the eyes of pedestrians, the eyes become dark for a few moments. An oncoming driver may lose control of the vehicle or become distracted. This is increasing the number of accidents. The transport department of Gujarat has initiated action againt those who install LED White lights on their vehicles. The regional transport department in Ahmedabad has launched a similar campaign. This offence should be treated at par with driving without a helmet, drunk, without a seat belt or even cars with heavy or dark tinted glasses.

Drivers, owners and retailers of such lights should be held accountable

While it is imperative that punitive action against those who use such LED white lights is necessary, such vehicles should also be impounded if the modifications are not resolved immediately. The police should conduct road blockades at night and act against such vehicles. An awareness campaign should also be conducted by the regional transport department. Also, all retailers and wholesalers of such dangerous lights must be held accountable and penalised said Shri. Murukate.
