Mumbai: In the year 2006, Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) extended facility of ‘non-payment of octroi’ to Sree Siddhivinayak Temple Trust as it is a charitable trust. It has been brought to notice that few officials of the trust have misused this facility by purchasing their personal requirements in the name of the Trust to avoid octroi. (How these people with such crimininal mentality must be managing the Trust? Owing to such kind of people, even earlier, the financial transactions of the Trust were found to be objectionable. Hindus must force the Government to hand over the management of temples which are the source of ‘chaitanya’, to the devotees and oppose the Government’s ploy to ‘governmentalize’ all Hindu temples ! – Editor SP)

The Octroi Department of MMC has recovered Rs. 72, 000/- by way of fine from this Trust and an inquiry has been going on of the concerned. (Hindus must realize that the evasion of octroi by officials of the Trust should be recovered from the respective officials and not from the money offered by devotees. Pressurize the Government in lawful manner to take necessary action ! - Editor SP) The Octroi Department of MMC has also been thinking about withdrawing the facility of non-payment of octroi extended to the Trust. (Why should MMC withdraw the facility because few persons are corrupt? It is the responsibility of the Government to appoint righteous people to manage the Trust. The Govt. seems to have failed in its duty; but why the facility should be withdrawn? Instead, the temple should be taken over from the Government management ! – Editor SP)

The MMC had received complaints in this connection; but the concerned officials ignored the same. (Such attitude of the administrative officers is responsible for the people losing faith in them. – Editor SP) Inquiry has been going on even of that matter. (Hindus should not be complacent about the inquiry and should follow up the matter till the guilty are punished ! – Editor SP)

Mr. Lad, the officer from Octroi Dept. said, “On 13th May, a truck loaded with ‘udbattis’ was held near Bandra Terminus Station. It was found that the material was called on behalf of Sree Sidddhivinayak Temple. The tempo was confiscated and was released only after recovering a fine of Rs. 72,000/- from the Trust by MMC.
