Proposal to close down ‘Saptashrungi Devi’ temple at Vani (Nasik District) for a month

Will Public Works Dept. ever dare to think in such manner about prayer houses of non-Hindus ?

Nasik : Shri Saptashrungi Devi Mandir is ‘Ardha-Peetha’ out of the 3-1/2 ‘Shakti-Peethas’. Public Works Department has instructed Devi Sansthan, Gram Panchayat and Tehsildar’s office through a letter issued to them that the temple should be kept closed from 25th November till 30th December because repairing work is proposed to be undertaken to prevent land-slides. Final decision is yet to be taken in this connection.

  1. The temple is on Saptashrungi Hills in a cave-like place. There is always likelihood of  land-slides affecting the temple in adverse manner. The work of fixing nets to prevent land-slides is proposed to be undertaken; using Tourism Development fund for safety of devotees and the temple.
  2. Between 25th November and 30th December, the work will be undertaken with the help of helicopters and while the work is undertaken, to prevent harm to devotees, it is thought of keeping the temple closed. It is stated that flow of devotees during the above period is less; therefore, it is being planned to undertake the work. The work is expected to be completed in about 4 months. Decision will be taken on closing of temple only after holding discussions with concerned authorities.
