Chandraprakash Kaushik, president of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, said he has asked all its 120 offices across the country to gear up for a “district level” commemoration of “Balidan diwas” this year. Godse was hanged in Ambala jail on November 15, 1949.
Hindu Mahasabha plans to distribute abridged copies of ‘Gandhivadh Kyon’, a book written by Gopal Godse, Nathuram Godse’s younger brother, also accused in Gandhi’s murder, to members of right wing organisations who have been invited to the event.
There will be plays enacted by students on Godse’s life and members will read out parts of the speech during his trial, Kaushik told ET.
He said Rajasthan and Maharashtra have shown maximum interest in the event. In New Delhi, the event will be held at the Hindu Mahasabha office near Birla Mandir on Mandir Marg.
“Godse was much more patriotic than Gandhi. I am very sure several people in the country think so. ‘Balidan diwas’ should be a day for the countrymen to sit and think why Godse killed Gandhi,” Kaushik said.
Mahasabha plans to build a large Godse rath, which will have pictures of revolutionaries such as Bhagat Singh and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. “We want to take the rath to different parts of the country, starting with western UP. This way the legend of Godse and stories of sacrifices made by him and leaders like him will be spread among our countrymen,” Kaushik said.
