Chennai : Devout Hindus gather to fight back Missionary activities

Staunch & devout Hindus gathered to fight back the ‘Missionaries conversion activities targeting senior citizens’ at Chennai

One of the resident of Indra Nagar, Chennai brought to notice of some Hindu activists and staunch Hindutvawadi Smt. Uma Anandan that missionaries are trying to convert one aged couple. They are residents of Indra Nagar. Missionaries have now new agenda and targeting the senior citizens under the pretext of offering help or assistance to them. Then they start visiting them frequently and try to imprint on their mind that our God (Jesus) can help and solve your difficulties. Once they are successful in convincing the old people, they try to start ‘common prayers’ and transform it slowly into prayer house and finally grab the property. Similar incidences were noticed in suburbs of Chennai like Choolaimedu & remote villages of Tamil Nadu.

Twenty two devout Hindus participated willingly to discuss & plan the strategy to combat this new threat from missionaries. As quick action point, it was decided to print pamphlets that would create awareness regarding this issue and distribute them door to door with the help of activists. Shri. Gans from BJP participated along with his office bearers in the meeting and voluntarily took responsibility of distributing pamphlets. Counseling help from experts will also be provided to such targeted families / senior citizens. To discuss and plan long term strategy, it was agreed to meet once again after 3 weeks and bring in more support.

While quoting an example of missionaries’ activity, a staunch Dharmabhimani said that, in Pushpa Nagar (one of the suburbs of Chennai) alone there were 675 statues / idols of Mary at various corners and junctions two years back. Now this number must have increased further. Shri. Shriram Luktuke from Hindu Janajagruti Samiti suggested use of RTI (Right To Information) act to find the basic details of such statues from Corporation, so that next course of action can be decided as per constitutional means. Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad has achieved many successes in Maharashtra, Karnataka & Goa in cases like misuse of temple property / funds etc. through this.

Special thanks were given to Shri. Pammal Srinivasan who was instrumental in sending invitation / messages to many people. Two senior citizens Shri. Anantanarayan & Shri. Udayakumar hosted the event very well. Their pride for Dharma & eagerness to protect it proved very motivating to all the attendees.

Smt. Padmini Ravichandran, Shri. Shridhar, Shri. Prithviraj took active interest in discussions. From BJP, Shri. Gans participated along with 10 volunteers in the meeting. Shri. Jaikumar & Shri. Shriram Luktuke from Hindu Janajagruti Samiti were amongst other partcipants.

Highlights:

  • Meeting was started sharply on time.
  • Smt. Uma Anandan ji said, we see thousands of Hindus visiting temples on Pradosham, Chaturthi or on special days, but if we need to come on street for the protection of our Dharma or temples, hardly 5-10 turn up. She also stressed that our efforts were more important than the number.
  • All agreed that gathering even 22 devout Hindus on short notice was a good sign & is a positive change. Now we need to pass this momentum to our families, friends and society.
