Nirbhaya rerun in Assam: 13-year-old girl gangraped inside moving bus

Guwahati – In an incident that reminds of gruesome Nirbhaya gangrape case in the national capital, a 13-year-old adivasi girl was on Sunday, Aug 23 gangraped inside a moving bus at Goreswar in Baksa district in Assam.

According to reports, the gangrape incident has led to statewide protests. People held placards saying ‘shame Assam Police’, ‘shame Assam government’, ‘protect women’s dignity’.

Police claims that they have identified two accused involved in the case as Arshad Ali and Rubul Ali.

The girl hails from Behali area of Sonitpur district and she works as a maid.

On Aug 23 night, the girl boarded a bus that was going to Uporkhuti area near Goreswar.

The accused gangraped her when all the passengers alighted from the bus, while taking advantage of the situation.

On Monday evening, a local adivasi group helped the girl in filing a police complaint The girl is undergoing medical treatment and is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) has condemned the incident and has demanded immediate arrest of culprits.
