Mumbai : A 25-year-old man from Goregaon, Tahir Chhotekhan, was arrested on Saturday for killing his girlfriend’s four-year-old son. According to police, the victim Aayan’s eight-year-old sister was present in the house when Tahir thrashed the boy, and she has been named as eyewitness in the case wherein Tahir has been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 302 for murder and 201 for trying to destroy evidence.

Tahir resided with his girlfriend Tasleem Khan, 23, and her two children at Bhagat Singh Nagar Chawl in Goregaon (W). Tahir is unemployed while Tasleem works as maid. The Bangur Nagar police said that Tahir told them he wanted to marry Tasleem but she would refuse citing her children’s priorities.

Early on Saturday, the couple had a fight after which Tasleem left for work. Police said Tahir, in a fit of rage, assaulted the boy, who fell unconscious. Seeing blood coming from the boy’s mouth, Tahir panicked and rushed him to Siddharth Hospital, where he told doctors that the boy had fallen while playing. However, the boy was declared ‘brought dead’.

Meanwhile, Tasleem returned home and was told by her daughter about Tahir assaulting the boy, following which she filed a complaint at Bangur Nagar Police Station. The hospital authorities had also called up police after the post-mortem revealed he had died of injuries.

Senior Inspector Dyaneshwar Jawalkar said, “The accused has confessed to killing the boy. The victim’s sister is a witness, and we have arrested Tahir on murder charges and for trying to destroy the evidence.” Jawalkar said that Tahir tried to convince the hospital authorities that the boy had suffered injuries in a fall, and that amounted to destruction of evidence.
