New York : Tang Museum to exhibit Hindu Deities

New York : Tang Museum and Art Gallery in Saratoga Springs in upstate New York will showcase paintings displaying images of various Hindu gods and goddesses in its upcoming exhibition “Realms of Earth and Sky”, which will be held from January 31 to May 17.

Hindu deities proposed to be shown in the paintings from India between 15th to 19th century include Brahma, Krishna, Rama, Sita, Radha and Hanuman. These paintings are drawn from Fralin Museum of Art in Charlottesville (Virginia) and major private collections in the Southeast. Daniel J. Ehnbom is the curator.

Applauding Tang for organizing Hinduism focused exhibition, distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that art had a long and rich tradition in Hinduism and ancient Sanskrit literature talked about religious paintings of deities on wood or cloth.

Rajan Zed urged major art museums of the world, including Musee du Louvre and Musee d’Orsay of Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Los Angeles Getty Center, Uffizi Gallery of Florence (Italy), Art Institute of Chicago, Tate Modern of London, Prado Museum of Madrid, National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, etc., to frequently organize Hindu art focused exhibitions, thus sharing the rich Hindu art heritage with the rest of the world.

Purpose of the Tang Museum and Art Gallery; whose tagline is “The Museum as laboratory, classroom, and performance space”; is to “awaken the community to the richness and diversity of the human experience through the medium of art”. Besides permanent collections, it organizes about 12 exhibitions yearly. Ian Berry is the Director.

Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. There are about three million Hindus in USA.
