Characters of Sriram, Seeta and Draupadi which are revered by Hindus are sheerly denigrated  !

Mumbai : Shows of play titled ‘Museum of Species in Danger’ are being staged currently under the banner of  ‘National School of Drama’ which is directed by Rasika Agashe with artists from ‘Being Association’. The shocking thing about this play is that it criticizes Hindu Dharma by distorting few incidents from ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharata’ under the guise of depiction of oppression of women. There is mud-slinging at characters of  Sriram, Seeta and Draupadi revered by Hindus. Shri. Deeptesh Patil, a devout Hindu from ‘Gou-vansh Raksha Samiti’ and his colleagues have lodged a written complaint with police in this regard. The local police have promised them of taking necessary action. Shri. Satish Kocharekar of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has written a letter to Censor Board for State Theatre registering strong protest and has demanded to immediately cancel certificate issued for staging such play.

Devout Hindus are registering protest on the following address :

HJS has stated in its letter that ….

1. Ramayana and Mahabharata are ancient scriptures which have given knowledge and inspiration to people on how to live life ideally. Nobody has right to present these holy scriptures in distorted form and it is an offense.

2. All Hindus know the truth behind incidents like ‘Seeta-haran’, ‘Draupadi Vastra-haran’ and Lakshman punishing ‘Shoorpanakha’. No critic has stooped to such low level so far and made such obscene statements. The playwright has invented stories on oppression of women by Deities, incarnations and Hindu Dharma.

3. Why are such ploys hatched to attack Hindu Dharma ? It is totally wrong to depict revered Bhagavan Rama, 5 Pandavas as villains and it is creating rift amongst people besides causing harm to unity of this country. The incidents depicted in this play are aimed at deliberate insult of seats of worship of Hindus and make mockery of Hindu Dharma.

Some of the most objectionable scenes from the play which hurt religious sentiments of Hindus are :

1. In one incident, Sriram asks Seeta to go through ‘Agni-pariksha’ when Seeta says, “You are asking me to go through ‘Agni-pariksha’ when I have not done any wrong; instead I would rather go as ‘Sati’ with Ravana.”

2. Seeta says further, “Ravana knew that Seeta was ‘used’; still he truly loved Seeta.”

3. Shoorpanakha says, “My only fault was I declared my love for Srirama. Is it right to punish me by giving such ugly form, for this mistake ?”

4. Draupadi says, “Kunti has made my sex time-table so that all brothers get equal time with me.”

5. Seeta Says, “People will ask who truly loved Seeta ? Was that Ravana who waited for Seeta to say ‘yes’ or Rama who showed distrust in her?”

One cannot be a Hindu if his blood does not boil after reading the above !
