Police complaint lodged against Municipal Commissioner

September 24, 2012

  •     Did not release water in river purposefully !
  •     Pulled out Ganesh idols immersed in tank by using hoes !
  •     Threw idols, loaded in 4 dumpers, into river from Sangamwadi bridge !

Pune (Maharashtra) : Pune Municipal Corporation is engaged in committing such activities which can be termed as a conspiracy to carry out anti-Dharma actions in the very midst of Ganeshotsav. So far, no water was released in Mutha river by Municipal Corporation for immersion of Shri Ganesh idols. Therefore, on observing the polluted condition and paucity of water in river, some idols were immersed in the artificial tank constructed by Municipal Corporation specifically for this purpose.

The regional office of the Corporation at Ghole Road had constructed an artificial tank near Shri Vruddhesvar-Siddhesvar temple on Nene Ghat. Due to paucity of water in river, the devotees immersed idols in this artificial tank. Later late in night, some idols were carried away by loading in a tempo. The remains of rest of idols along with mud produced thereof were thrown in river itself by hauling the same with hoes. This act came to light today. The employees of M/S Cummins were deputed on this tank under the their programme to check pollution.

When Mr. Vaibhav Bahirat, a Ganesh devotee, inquired with a contractor who is given the job of releasing the water in the river, the contractor ran away. Even the water stored in the tank was also released in the river. Even the volunteers engaged in pulling out the idols from tank were so careless that the idols and their remains were getting trampled by the feet of these volunteers.

The pro-Hindus have lodged a complaint in Shivajinagar Police station regarding this incident against Mr. Mahesh Pathak the Commissioner of Corporation. The complaint was received by Mr. Waghmare, Assistant Police Inspector.

He has promised to investigate the complaint and register an offence. Those who were present at this time included Mr. Milind Ekbote of Samast Hindu Aghadi, Mr. Sunil Ghanavat of Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, Mr. Vaibhav Bahirat, a Ganesh devotee. Later, Mr. Milind Ekbote said, “Such desecration should be stopped. The idols of Shri Ganesh should be immersed directly in the river. Corporation should not immerse the idols in tank.”

In another incident, the idols immersed in the tank under the jurisdiction of Ghole Road regional office were loaded in the four garbage carrying dumpers in the dead of the night at 3.30 a.m. and were transported to new bridge at Sangamwadi. Later these idols were thrown in the water flowing down the river.

When Mr. Samir Nikam, Chairman of Mauli Pratishthan and President of National Congress Party of Shivajinagar legislative constituency, inquired about this incident with the officers of Corporation, they replied that they were performing their duties. Contradicting this reply, Mr. Samiir Nikam said, “It was promised that the idols iimmesed in the tank will be carefully immersed. But, actually the idols were transported in garbage carrying dumpers and thrown in the river. This has hurt the sentiments of devotees of Shri Ganesh. It is necessary to protect the sanctity of idols. On one hand, the corporation declares that it wants to avoid pollution and on the other it itself immerses idols in the river. Why this paradox ? In stead, the devotees of Ganesh may be be permitted to immerse idols in the river itself. If the Corporation does not put a stop to this, it will be held responsible for further consequences.

Mr. Samir Nikam has lodged a complaint with Mr. Mahesh Pathak, Municipal Commissioner, against above incident and demanded that the Ganesh idols be immersed appropriately after being immersed in tank.
