Hindu Janajagruti Samiti participated in a peaceful protest organized by Hindu Munnani, Ambattur, Chennai on 22-9-2011, near Emmanuel Methodist High School, Pudur. This protest was in connection with the suicide committed by a ninth std. student Kum. V.Ramya on 16-9-2011, after her teacher harassed her regarding her hair style.  The teacher Ms.Jay, twisted and pinched Ramya’s ears in front of her classmates for dress-code violation. The 14-year-old girl’s parents accused the teacher of rapping her several times over dress code and hairstyle. Not withstanding the insult hurled before all the boys and girls, Ramya committed suicide as soon as she came back home. The school does not allow girls to sport bindis, flowers and bangles.

The permission to conduct the protest was cancelled at the last moment. During the few minutes protest, slogans were shouted and the local head of Hindu Munnani spoke briefly on the incident and stressed on the need to unite and voice protest against the anti-Dharmic oppression of Christian schools. Around 25 people including relatives of Ramya were present. It was demanded that the concerned teacher and school authorities should be arrested immediately. As soon as the protest campaign started, the police loaded everyone present in a police van and detained them at a nearby place. After taking down the personal details of all, the police let out everyone after sometime. The Hindu Munnani State President, Shri. D.P.Jaikumar, Shri .B.R.Gauthaman, Lion P.N.Mariappan were also present on the occasion. A detailed appeal for justice was prepared as told by the victim’s father and handed over to the police.

Apart from participating in the protest, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti volunteers also spoke with the aggrieved family members and consoled  and told them about the importance of doing Kuladevata Naamjap and Datta Naamjap. The importance of sending the wards to Hindu schools instead of Christian missionary schools was also emphasized.
