Karnataka Temple demolition

Mysore (Karnataka): The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) demolished as many as 87 illegal places of worship in the nine zonal limits on Tuesday.

BJP Government in Karnataka declared 18 temples as unauthorized and later demolished them. The demolition started at 11.00 p.m. was going on till the following evening.

HJS held a protest against encroachment and requested Government to do a complete survey of land belonging to Sadashiv Sagar Lake and thus protecting it from encroachment, and thus protecting the purity and sanctity of lake and making clear the already encroached place.

On 09/05/2011, HJS organized and staged a protest in front of DC office against the proposed laws related to Karnataka Hindu Religious institutions and trusts by Karnataka Government.

As per the ruling of the Supreme Court, for the last few months the state government was involved in shifting the authorised prayer halls of all religion communities while demolishing the unauthorised constructions. As this action of the government was vehemently opposed by Hindus the Karnataka government has taken a decision to authorise all unauthorised prayer places in Karnataka.

Dr. V. S. Acharya, Minister for religious endowments, Karnataka has instructed that unauthorized temples, mosques and churches, which do not create any inconvenience to the public interest, should be made authorized.

On Feb20/02/2011,the inaugural ceremony of 'Temples AND Spiritual Centres' Mahasangh' Belthangady branch, took place in Ujire's Shri Janardhan temple's Sabha mantap with the lighting of Holy Lamp by the Secretary of Shri Ayyappa mandir and Shri Raghavendra Mutt.
