Panaji (Goa): The devout Hindus of Mapusa, Panaji and Pedne have resolved to unite to safeguard temples. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) had recently organized meetings of the local temple trustees and devout Hindu citizens at Mapusa, Panaji and Pedne. Those present at these meets made the above resolve. The Goa government through an assessment has made a list of unauthorized places of worship. This list seems to contain even 500-year old ancient temples. Considering an appeal from the citizens the government is re-assessing the list of unauthorized places of worship. In this context, the HJS has launched a state wide agitation to spread awareness amongst Hindus about safeguarding temples. The above meets were organized as a part of this agitation.

The meet at Mapusa was held at Sateri Temple Mini Hall and was attended by 80 people. The prominent personalities present at the meet were Mr. Bhai Pandit, President of Sree Ganesh Temple, Ansabhat; Mr. Narayan Rathwad, President of Sree Sateri Devasthan; Mr. Bhivashet, President of the famous Sree Ganesh Temple, Ganeshpuri; Mr. Jayesh Thali, HJS’ Goa State spokesperson and Mrs. Rajashree Gadekar, Ranaragini branch.

The meet at Panaji was held at Sree Vidyadhiraj Hall and was attended by office bearers of various temples of Chimbal, Porvorim, Taleigaon, Miramar, Bambolim, Torda, Panaji and Campal area. The meet at Pernem was held at Sree Sateri Temple and was attended by the office bearers of Ibrampur, Ugave, Poruskade, Mopa and Dhargal. This agitation is receiving good response from the society.
