Court sends both girls to shelter home instead of handing them over to parents
Sindh, Pakistan – In Pakistan’s Sindh province, two Hindu sisters aged merely 13 and 14 were abducted, forcibly converted, and married off to Muslim men. These minor girls pleaded before the court to be reunited with their parents; however, the court refused to return them to their family. Instead of sending them home, the court remanded them to a shelter home. The practice of Pakistani courts consigning young girls to safe houses is widely regarded as a calculated tactic. Within these shelter homes, the girls and their relatives are subjected to such intense intimidation that they are ultimately left with no choice but to accept the nikah.

According to journalists and minority rights activists, the girls belong to the Kutchi fisherman community and have been identified as Sita and Roopi. The two were married off to Amjad Solangi and Mansoor Solangi, respectively.

This fresh incident has come to light amidst mounting concern over rising abductions of underage Hindu girls in the Tando Allahyar district. On 9 September, reports surfaced regarding the abduction of a 14-year-old Hindu girl named Pansi Kohli from this very district. Within a span of merely 10 days, six minor Hindu girls have been kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam in this single district.
