Effect of lack of ‘Dharmashikshan’ amongst Hindus !

  • Feud on ownership rights of the temple results in such anti-Dharma acts !
  • Two brothers responsible for the damage, taken into custody by police
  • Tension in the area
  • Accusation against police of not taking the matter seriously despite forewarning

Ponda : On 11th October, the day of Dussehra, an idol from sanctum sanctorum of Shri Mallikarjuna Devasthan at Mashel, Khandola was dug out and damage was caused to few other things in the sanctum by two persons. The feud about ownership of the temple resulted in the act of uprooting of the idol. The incident has created immense tension in the village. Ponda police rushed to the place of incident and Gawade brothers responsible for such anti-Dharma act were taken into custody. Both the brothers were interrogated by the police. Office bearers of Shri Mallikarjuna Devasthan and local residents have demanded stringent action against the accused.

The detailed news is : there is a temple of Shri Mallikarjuna at Mashel, Khandola in ‘Shri Shantadurga Panchayatan’. Every year, there is dance of ‘Tarangs’ held after ‘puja’ is performed on the day of Dassera. This year also, ‘Tarangs’ were kept ready for such dance; but the suspects viz. Gurudas and his brother Gokuldas entered the temple in the morning and uprooted the idol of Shri Mallikarjuna. Devotees tried to stop them but Gokuldas attacked them with a sword on ‘Tarang’. Riddhish Sukthankar, Padmanabh Khandolkar, Pratap Haldankar and Surya Jalmi have been injured in the attack.

Even earlier, there was dispute between Gurudas Yashwant Gawade and Devasthan Samiti about ownership of the temple and the matter was fought in Court. The Court passed verdict in favour of the Devasthan Samiti; therefore, suspect Gurudas had tried to create obstacles even during religious programs held by the Devastahn on number of occasions. In this background, Devasthan Samiti submitted a representation to Inspector at Ponda police station, Dy. District Collector of the taluka and Mamledar for prevention of problems but neither the Government nor the police took the demand seriously. (What is the use of such Govt. administration and police ? – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat) On the day of Dassera, only 2 policemen were provided at the Devasthan; but Gawade brothers caused damage right in front of those police men. (If police are unable to prevent such things despite being present at the place of incident, their presence is of no use ! – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)
