Case registered against the headmaster

Bidar, Karnataka – An incident in which a Hindu student was threatened for raising slogans of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ on 15 August recently came to light at Shaheen College, located in Chitguppa town of the district. The student, Sagar Gawli, had raised these slogans following the flag hoisting. Over this, school headmaster Abdul Hakim threatened Sagar and warned him that such a mistake must not be repeated. He also confined him to a room in the school for one hour in an attempt to exert mental pressure on him.
Shame on Principal Abdul Hakeem!
After Independence Day, this Shaheen PU College head in Bidar stopped students from chanting “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, calling these sacred slogans “belonging to a particular religious community” and banning them on campus.

‘Beware if you chant Vande Mataram again!’ – said Abdul Hakim
The student’s parents have levelled serious allegations against Shaheen College headmaster Abdul Hakim. They stated that Hakim threatened Sagar, saying, “This (Vande Mataram) is a slogan of a specific religious community, and such slogans will not be tolerated in our college. Do not raise such slogans again.” The parents further mentioned that Hindu and Muslim students study together in the college. However, headmaster Hakim is not only fostering enmity between them on the basis of religion, but is also discriminating against them.
Wave of public outrage
A case has been registered against headmaster Hakim after the victim’s father, Hiroba Gawli, lodged a police complaint in this matter. As soon as the incident came to light, devout Hindus took Hakim to task. Citizens have questioned his loyalty as a school headmaster towards the national anthem, the national song, and the country, while demanding stringent action against him.
- Punishing a Hindu student for raising patriotic slogans on Independence Day shows a disturbing mindset of such radicalised individuals.
- Hindus must unite and ensure that Karnataka Police take strict action against the accused headmaster, and send a clear message that disrespecting national sentiments will no longer be tolerated.
