Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh foils attempt to seize Amravati Temple land

Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh and Shri Maroti Sansthan trustees jointly fight tenancy claim as Achalpur Tehsildar rules in the temple’s favour

Amravati, Maharashtra – An attempt to acquire the agricultural land owned by Shri Maroti Sansthan (Shri Ram and Hanuman Temple) located at Mouza Kakda in Achalpur taluka under the tenancy (Kul) law has been foiled through a legal battle. Following objections filed by the Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh and the Sansthan’s trustees, Achalpur Tehsildar Sudarshan Shahare rejected the application on 30 July 2026, ruling in favour of the Devasthan.

Panjabrao Mahadevrao Patil and others had filed an application before the Tehsildar to purchase and obtain the agricultural land owned by the Sansthan under the tenancy law. The trustees of the Sansthan and the Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh mounted a legal opposition against this. On behalf of the Mahasangh, state office-bearers Anup Jaiswal, Mayur Dixit, and Surendra Prajapati filed detailed objections. Meanwhile, representing the Sansthan, Prakash Bonde, Anil Bonde, Gajanan Bonde, Harish Patil, Rameshwar Borkar, Rahul Vaidya, Sunil Bonde, Devanand Thakare, Prashant Bonde, Suresh Bonde, Avinash Bonde, Vilas Bonde, Radheshyam Nathe, Ramdas Pandey, Prakash Alatkar, and others presented their case.

The matter of tenant purchase of the agricultural land had already been dismissed on 30 November 1966. The opposition drew the administration’s attention to this historical fact. Citing the earlier decision, the Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh demanded that the newly filed tenancy purchase proceedings be immediately quashed and formally closed (daftari dakhil).

After examining the evidence and documents submitted by both sides, the Tehsildar passed the final order. The tribunal had already passed an order previously, and there was no evidence available of it being set aside. Consequently, the Tehsildar recorded the finding that “the applicants do not have the right to purchase the said land” and dismissed the applicants’ demand.
