Nandurbar : For fulfilling the aim of Lokmanya Tilak in collectively celebrating Ganesh festival for effective unification of Hindus, ‘Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mahamandal (SGM)’ has been set up through the medium of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS). It is the duty of every devout and patriotic citizen to celebrate ‘Ganeshotsava’ in ideal manner by cutting of malpractices especially when nation and Dharma are in danger. Ganesh-devotees should seek blessings of Shri Ganesh by keeping such ideal before them and celebrating the festival with complete devotion. The above appeal was made by Dr. Narendra Patil of HJS during a press conference held here on behalf of SGM promoted by HJS.

The press conference was attended by Shri. Prem Sonar, President of ‘Shri Dada Ganapati Mandal’, which stands first in getting honour among all Ganapati Mandals in the city; Shri. Harshal Sonar, Vice President of ‘Shri Baba Ganapati Mandal’, Sou. Chetana Patil, of ‘Kunabi Patil Ganesh Mandal’, Shri. Shekhar Marathe, Manager of ‘Jai Bajarang Vyayamshala’ and Kum Rageshree Deshpande of HJS.

Dr. Patil said further, “’Ganeshotsava Mandals’ came together to form ‘Sarvajanik Mahamandal’ and brought ‘one-window’ system in operation with local administration and it has helped in solving many problems; as also in bringing together all Ganesh – devotees. This year, Government administration held independent meeting of all ‘Ganeshotsava Mandals’ since all Ganesh- devotees are united and it helped to have good coordination with the Government administration.

Shri. Prem Sonar, the President of ‘Shri Dada Ganapati Mandal’ said, ‘Donations collected by ‘Mandal’ are used for social and religious activities. During ‘Ganeshotsava’ period, school students are invited and they do collective reading of ‘Atharvasheersha’. To accomplish the real purpose of celebrating ‘Ganeshotsava’, ‘One-ward- one Ganapati’ and ‘One village- one Ganapati’ method should be adopted for celebrations. Shri. Harshal Sonar, Vice President of ‘Shri Baba Ganapati Mandal’ said, “Even we use the donations collected on the occasion for social and religious matters. Once, during floods of River Tapi, we had utilized funds to help flood-stricken people. The level of River Tapi is little less so if more water is let in the river, it will help immersions of idols.”

Sou. Chetana Patil of Kunabi Patil Ganesh Mandal said, “We give more emphasis on social causes. We use flowers instead of ‘gulal’ for prevention of air-pollution; also, instead of drums etc we play Shri Ganesh’s devotional songs to avoid noise pollution. This year, we have decided to put up exhibition on revolutionaries devised by HJS and we have made decorative pieces with message on getting rid of addictions.”

Shri. Shekhar Marathe, Manager of ‘Jai Bajarang Vyayamshala’ said, “Due to initiative taken by HJS, there is now effective unification of Ganesh-devotees in the city. It has also helped in solving many problems faced by Ganesh-devotees and awareness is created to maintain sanctity of this religious festival.”
