Burkha-clad women offer collective namaz at Ganga Udyan in Ahilyanagar

  • Sakal Hindu Samaj stages strong protest

  • MLA Sangram Jagtap issues stern warning to authorities

Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra – A large number of citizens, children, and senior citizens regularly visit the Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporation’s Ganga Udyan park here. Defying the rules in this public space, an incident has come to light where burkha-clad Muslim women collectively offered namaz. To protest against this incident, members of the Sakal Hindu Samaj recited the Hanuman Chalisa and bhajans at the same spot. Furthermore, the exact location where the namaz was offered was ritually worshipped and purified.

On this occasion, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Sangram Jagtap criticised the alleged suspicious activities taking place under the guise of the burkha. He stated that in recent times, several wrongful incidents have occurred under the cover of the burkha. A few days ago, an incident occurred near Shankar Savli Math in the Maliwada area, where a burkha-clad individual threw beef. It remains unclear whether that individual was a man or a woman, and the administration has still not been able to apprehend the accused. He added that due to such incidents, a situation has now arisen where demands like “Burkha hatao, Desh bachao” are being raised.

Criticism of the administration’s functioning

MLA Jagtap further asserted that these unauthorized religious gatherings are intentionally organized behind park foliage to create an atmosphere of fear, ultimately discouraging Hindu families, children, and senior citizens from visiting. He mentioned that a similar attempt was previously made through encroachment at Paar Chowk, which he successfully foiled.

Issuing a stern warning to local authorities, Jagtap stated that if the administration fails to take strict legal action against unauthorized public prayers, Hindu society will not remain passive and may take matters into its own hands. He declared that moving forward, members of the Hindu community will perform ‘Devta pujan’ (deity worship) at any public location where unauthorised namaz is offered.

Editorial Perspective
  • Public parks built using taxpayers' money are for the recreation of families and children, not for unauthorised collective prayers. Yesterday it was Sarasbaug, today it is Ganga Udyan. If we remain silent, every public space in our city will be compromised.
  • Hindus must unite to prevent such encroachment on our public areas.
