Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia): Registered Hindu temples in the country will be allowed to get foreign help in terms of priests, musicians and artisans, said Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr S.Subramaniam.

Approval would only be given for new hires and Hindu temples needing the services of these people could file in their applications from now, he said in a statement here today.

One of the conditions for applying, he said, was that the temples concerned must get his endorsement as he was the Cabinet representative for the Indian community.

Approval will be given for a three-year term after all the vetting procedures were completed by the police and Immigration Department.

The age limit for priests is 40 years while for the other two jobs descriptions, above 35 years and 30 years respectively. All those to be brought in must have the appropriate certification which must be validated by him and also undergo an orientation course to familiarise themselves with local norms, sensitivities and culture, added Dr Subramaniam.
