HJS appeal to Govt. for taking action against M.F. Hussain

Mumbai (Maharashtra): M.F. Hussain, controversial painter who has denigrated Hindu deities and Mother India by drawing obscene and nude pictures of Hindu deities and Bharat Mata, has hurt religious sentiments of all Hindus. Therefore, the Government should grant necessary permission required to initiate action against Hussain. The above demand was made by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) to Shri. Pandurang Fundkar, the Opposition leader in Legislative Council.

Shri. Fundkar handed it over to the concerned officials to present the subject during winter session of the Assembly. Shri. Fundkar was given a copy of Court’s orders along with the representation and other relevant papers. It has been mentioned in the representation that more than 1250 police complaints and cases have been filed in various Courts against Hussain whereas a few devout Hindus have filed PIL in respect of which special Branch of Mumbai Police have completed enquiry and sent the papers to the Law and Justice Department of the Government; but the Government is yet to grant permission as such no action can be initiated against Hussain.

The representation, handed over to Shri. Fundkar, further says, “As a result of the delay, a few spoilsports in the country are trying to call back absconding Hussain and glorify him. On a banner displayed at Colaba above a hotel, Shri. Nana Chudasama, the President of the organization ‘I Love Mumbai’ has put up ‘Let’s welcome our Nation’s pride M F Hussain’. Recently at an exhibition of paintings held in Tao Art gallery called ‘Canvas on India 2007’, Hussain’s paintings were to be displayed and for sale; besides, ‘Jamia’ an Islamic college has conferred ‘Doctorate’ degree on Hussain. Since no action is being initiated against Hussain, thousands of people are feeling hurt and therefore, the Maharashtra Government may be asked to give permission immediately, to stop contempt of feelings of people in this manner.”
