Attempt to burn the centuries old Tali Mahadeva Temple in Kerala

Angadipuram (Kerala): An attempt was made to burn down the centuries old Tali Mahadeva Temple at Angadipuram, in Malappuram district, Kerala on 31st August 2007. At 3.30  am some passers by saw the main door  burning and informed the temple security guards who immediately rang the temple bell and woke up the entire neighbourhood. The police came there with a large force.

The Devotees, Hindu Aikya Vedi and RSS activists quickly reached the spot and conducted naamjapa sitting on the road to protest this heinous act.

The main door measures 8 metres by 2 metres and contained the carvings of Dakshinamoorthy, Nataraja, Ganapati, Nandi, Shanmugham, Vasuki and Ardhanarishvara. Nearly 40 years back the Communist Government of Kerala had handed over the temple to The Archaelogical survey of India but due to protest by devotees the court had given the temple back to the devotees.

An all party meeting was held to defuse the tension in the area.
