UP: ‘Islam Zindabad’, ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans raised during a Durga puja event

In a shocking event, a girl belonging to the Muslim community created a ruckus in the ongoing Durga puja event in the Basti region of Uttar Pradesh by raising communally sensitive and anti-India slogans. On Monday, 23rd October, the girl barged into the event and threw black cloth on the idol of Maa Durga, and raised slogans praising Islam and Pakistan.

The girl got on the stage and snatched the mic from the person who was singing praises of Maa Durga and yelled, “Islam Zindabad, Pakistan Zindabad.” The police booked the girl on Tuesday, 24th October for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and investigating the matter further.

As per the reports, the incident is said to have happened during the ‘Jagran’ event which was organized in the Chowri Bazar area on Monday (23rd October) evening. The anti-India slogans irked the other Hindu attendees who immediately informed the police, but the authorities seemed to allegedly ignore the incident at first.

The locals complained that the police were called but they failed to arrive at the spot. Notably, on Tuesday, 24th October, the locals blocked the Chowri Bazar area and raised slogans against the administration. “Police Prashasan Murdabad, Hindustan Zindabad,” the slogans read.

The incident was recorded on the CCTV footage which stands as proof that slogans praising Islam and Pakistan were deliberately raised in a Hindu event by a Muslim girl. Also, Maa Durga was insulted by the girl as she threw black cloth at the idol.

The incident spread like fire in the Basti region of Uttar Pradesh. The Hindus residing in the city condemned the incident and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused girl. The locals meanwhile, who witnessed the incident said that the girl was surrounded by around 6-7 persons when she raised anti-India slogans but she was not stopped by anyone. The police also didn’t come to the event, locals complained.

The Police took cognizance of the event after the mass protest and booked the girl for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. Dy SP Shehmani Upadhyay commented on the issue and confirmed that a police case has been filed in the matter and that all the persons responsible for creating communal tension at the event will be arrested.

The police also stated the possibility that the girl might have been trained by some miscreants who wanted to disturb the peace in the region. “All those will be exposed,” the police added.

“A Muslim girl went on the stage and raised religious slogans. The locals allege that there was negligence on the part of the police who were on duty. After investigation, action will be taken against them. A case has been registered and legal action will be taken against those who have attempted to disturb the peace,” Dy SP was quoted as saying.
