Complaint filed against Nishu Azad for posts mocking Hindu Gods

Advocate Amita Sachdeva files cyber complaint over derogatory social media posts on Hindu Gods on ‘X’

New Delhi – Supreme Court Advocate Amita Sachdeva has filed a complaint with the Delhi Cyber Police against Nishu Azad, a minor associated with the Cockroach Janta Party’s agitation at Jantar Mantar, and her father Sanjay Azad. The complaint alleges that posts from the girl’s X account contained derogatory references to Bhagwan Shiva, Bhagwan Shri Krishna, Maa Saraswati, and Maa Durga. 

I gave @Nishuazad11 (Nishu Aazad) a clear and polite opportunity to delete the posts that insult Hindu Deities, Bhagwan Shiv, Bhagwan Shri Krishna, Maa Saraswati, and Maa Durga.

Advocate Sachdeva first politely and clearly asked Nishu Azad and her father to delete the objectionable posts, keeping in mind that the account holder is a minor. However, the posts were not removed, and continued to remain publicly accessible. She then, proceeded to file the complaint against both the minor and her father. 

Advocate Sachdeva stated that disagreement with someone’s faith is a personal choice, but it does not give anyone the licence to mock, degrade or insult the Gods and worship of others. She added that freedom of speech is not freedom to outrage religious feelings.

She has sought registration of a case under Sections 299 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The complaint mentions four posts published between September 2023 and August 2026 that insulted Hindu deities and religious beliefs with deliberate and malicious intent.
