Tamil Nadu: Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) president MH Jawahirullah on Sunday issued an apology over the use of an offensive caricature on the Manipur viral video incident, saying that disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against those behind the act.

The poster was erected by party members in Batlagundu of Dindigul district to condemn an incident in which two women were sexually assaulted and paraded naked in Manipur.

In the poster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been depicted as Lord Rama and Lord Lakshmana. They are standing on either side of Goddess Sita, who has been shown as a naked woman, whose private parts have been covered with the tricolour.

An FIR has been filed in the matter on a complaint by Hindu Munnani.

In a video statement to ANI, Jawahirullah said that disciplinary action has been taken against those who put up the poster and the party did not intend to hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
The MMK is a part of the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
