Panaji (Goa) : Gomantak Mandir and Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangh (GMDSM) had made a demand to revoke the ‘Derrams Tax’ and Portuguese laws applied to temples to the Goa Government, the members of the opposition party and others. BJP MLA Mr. Dilip Parulekar, leader of the opposition, Mr. Manohar Parrikar, MLA Advocate Mr. Dayanand Narvekar insisted in the Goa legislative Assembly on 29th March 2011 to revoke the ‘Derrams Tax’ which is applied in 4 talukas of the State. After a debate the Revenue Minister, Mr. Jose Philip D’souza assured the assembly that the circular demanding the ‘Derrams Tax’ will be withdrawn.

In this pretext, GMDSM offers gratitude towards MLA Mr. Dilip Parulekar, leader of the opposition, Mr. Manohar Parrikar, MLA Advocate Dayanand Narvekar, Speaker Mr. Pratapsingh Rane, Revenue Minister Mr. Jose Philip D’souza and Chief Minister Mr.  Digambar Kamat. GMDSM is also making a demand to revoke the pernicious conditions applied to temples during the Portuguese regime after studying them. The mission of GMDSM is getting success due to the decision of revoking the circular to collect the ‘Derrams Tax’. This is a result of the unity amongst the trustees of temples. It is necessary for all the trustees to march ahead getting inspired by the success.
