GMDSM Office bearers submitting resolution to the Chief Minister of Goa

Panaji (Goa): A delegation of Gomantak Mandir and  Dhaarmik Sanstha Mahasangh (GMDSM) established to save temples met Chief Minister Digambar Kamat yesterday at the Secretariat at Porvorim. A resolution copy which was passed during inaugural function of the Mahasangh and bearing a 1000 signatures including 700 signatures of office bearers of the various temple committees, was handed over to CM. CM assured to the delegation that Government will look into the demands and find a proper solution. Also Government will take Mahasangh into confidence in solving the issues related to temples.

President of GMDSM Mr. Chandrakant alias Bhai Pandit, State convener Mr. Jayesh Thali, Mr. Niranjan Chodankar of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had gone to meet Chief Minister Digambar Kamat were present in the delegation at this time. 

Altogether 8 demands were put the Government. This demands are as follows.

  1. Mandir Rakshak Pathak’ (Temple protection squad) be established at the Taluka level.
  2. Government should not demolish any temple as unauthorised unless the temple committee of the respective temple and the Mandir Mahasangh have been taken into confidence.
  3. Losses incurred due to temple thefts and desecrated idols should be reimbursed at the earliest.
  4. not a single temple from Mayem in liberated Goa be considered as unauthorised.
  5. Government should authorise temples which were declared unauthorised earlier.
  6. Police should seriously investigate and book criminals responsible for temple thefts and desecration of idols.
  7. the government should provide financial and technical assistance to temples for purchasing equipments and tools for their safety.
  8. Portuguese rules applied to temples should be revoked and Government should give grants to temple committees which are interested in starting Goshalas and Ved Pathashalas.
