Robbery in ‘Panchmukhi Hanuman’ temple in Sangli

Sangli (Maharashtra) : A jeweller’s shop was looted in Miraj during the last week. Four days back, 4 houses were burgled in Sangli and now, it has been brought to light that robbery took place in ‘Panchmukhi Maruti’ temple located in thickly populated area in Sangli. Silver crown, mace and ‘paduka’ of the idol have been stolen. (Sangli police are claimed to be of ISO standard when they cannot stop thefts taking place continuously ! – Editor SP) The stolen goods are worth Rs. 27,000/- with today’s market rate of silver. Mr. Parashuram Bhagavandas Bairagi, the priest of the temple has lodged a complaint with the police. (Several complaints for such kind of offences have been lodged with the police so far all over the State; but the culprits have not been nabbed even in a single case by the police.- Editor SP) Police took dog-squad to the place of incident without any outcome. This has enraged Hindus.

When are the police and the State Government going to take the incidents of theft in temples seriously? – HJS

Mr. Dattatreya Retharekar of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) said, “On 18th December, HJS had submitted a representation to the District Administration regarding the increasing incidents of theft in temples. It was demanded that the patrolling in temple areas should be increased; but today’s incident shows that the District and police administration have not taken the representation seriously. In November, many incidents of theft in temples were recorded even at Jaisingpur. Many temple managements have not lodged a complaint to avoid the police harassment. Temples are the source of divine energy for Hindus. When are the police and rulers going to take these matters seriously ?”
