HJS protests against Documentry on Hussain screened in IFFI, Goa

November 28, 2008

Margashirsha Shuddha Pratipada

Panaji (Goa): The  the documentary film ‘ Through the eyes of a painter’ by malicious Hussain was screened at the 39th  International Film Festival (IFF) by disregarding the feelings of Hindus’. Hindu Janjagruti Samiti has protested against Goa Government and Directorate of Film Division in the Conference of Journalists organized by the Samiti in Panaji. Mr. Jayesh Thaly and Mr. Sadashiv Dhond were present at the said Conference.

Chief Minister of Goa, Mr. Digambar Kamat had given an assurance to the Samiti having an eye on the bi-election, that the screening would be cancelled. Yet by screening of the documentary on the very next day of the election, he has proved his own deceptive nature. Mr. Kamat has proved that Congress is anti-Hindu Government. If there is no justice for opposing constitutionally then the Government would be responsible for any untoward incident taking place for having disregarded Hindus’ feelings, warned Mr. Thaly. The Film Division of Information and broadcasting Ministry also had conveyed to the Samiti about the cancellation of the said documentary; but screening of the documentary suddenly was surprising for the officer in abovementioned Film Division too. Around 1250 complaints about Hussain have been registered at various Police stations in the country. So also the Samiti has forced many organizers of the exhibitions of Hussain’s pictures at various places to cancel the same, said Mr. Sadashiv Dhond. (Not a single word of opposition came from the strong Hindutvawadi Organisations and Political Parties; because they do not feel anything regarding the nude pictures painted by Hussain. Demand an answer from each one of them whenever you happen to meet them.- Editor)

Panaji (Goa): A senior officer of the Film Division of Information and Broadcasting Ministry in Mumbai informed the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS) that the documentry  on Hindu hating painter M.F. Hussain that was to be screened in the 39th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will not be screened at the. HJS had put before the organizer of the IFFI in Goa and Film Division of Information and Broadcasting Ministry in Mumbai a demand with respect to not screening of the said film. A documentry, ‘Through the eyes of the painter’ on M.F. Hussain was to be screened at the IFFI on 25th November at 3 in the evening. Having received the information about the screening of the said film, the HJS had made a representation to Shri. Manoj Srivastav, the organizer of the IFFI in Goa and the Chief Officer of Goa’s Entertainment Institute demanding the cancellation of the screening of the film.

It was mentioned in the representation that M.F. Hussain had denigrated Bharatmata/Mother India and Hindu Deities by painting their nude pictures which hurt the sentiments of the Hindus tremendously.  A delegation of the HJS made a representation with a warning to Film Division of Information and Broadcasting Ministry in Mumbai also regarding stopping of the screening of the short film based on Hussain in Goa or else Hindus would agitate constitutionally from all over. After a long discussion with the Chief Officers in the Film Division, he tried to contact the officers in Goa and New Dehli again and again and finally told the delegation at 3.30 in the evening that the screening of the abovementioned film was cancelled. The delegation included Ms. Shashikala Pai, Mrs. Anu Parsuram and Mrs. Varsha Thakar.

Highlights

• While the delegation of HJS was discussing the said matter with the Chief Officer of the Film Division of Information and Broadcasting Ministry in Mumbai, he tried to divert it from the original demand saying that if the screening of the documentry was cancelled then IFFI and Hussain would get publicity. But Shri. Shivaji Vatkar, a member from the delegation told the officer, “We are not interested whether anyone gets publicity or not. We want that under any circumstances the said screening should be cancelled. Just Tell us, whether are you going to do it or not!”

• The delegation was waiting from 11.30 in the morning till 3.30 in the afternoon to get their abovementioned demand sanctioned. They were least bothered about their food.

News Regarding Hussain’s documentry at IFFI

HJS presents memorandum to cancel Hussain’s documentary at IFFI

Panaji (Goa): The 39th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) organised by the Films Division of the Information and Publicity Department, Government of India, is going to screen a documentary titled ‘Through the eyes of a painter’ based on the anti-Hindu painter M.F. Hussain on the 25th November at 3 pm. M.F. Hussain has drawn nude pictures of ‘BharatMata’ and Hindu Deities, thereby hurting the sentiments of Hindus all across the nation. Court cases against Hussain are still going on. Hussain is an anti-Hindu anti-national and 1250 police complaints have been filed against him with various police stations.

Likewise, agitations have been staged against Hussain at various places and memorandums have been given to the government. As a result of these agitations, awards to be conferred on Hussain in Maharashtra and various other states have been cancelled in the past. Hussain’s paintings had been displayed at exhibitions put up by organisations named ‘Khushi’ in Mumbai and ‘Eshaan’ in Pune. These paintings were withdrawn by the organisers after pro-Hindus educated them about Hussain’s anti-Hindu and anti-National acts. The famed ‘Raja Ravi Verma Award’ of Kerala state was going to be conferred upon Hussain. This award was also not given to Hussain after pro-Hindus alerted the organisers about Hussain’s acts. Likewise, the ‘Bhauruka Trust’ also canceled its program of felicitating Hussain in Dubai.

In view of the above incidents, the decision of the Goa government and the organisers of the Film Festival to screen a documentary on Hussain at the IFFI is akin to hurting the sentiments of Hindus. Thus, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, on behalf of all Hindus, has requested the Governor of Goa to cancel the screening of Hussain’s documentary and has expressed hope that the memorandum presented by it will be acted upon suitably. A copy of this memorandum has been submitted to Shri. Anand Sharma, Information and Publicity Minister for Goa State; Shri. Digambar Kamat, Chief Minister of Goa and Shri. Nikhil Desai, Goa Entertainment Society, Panaji.
