The school management has suspended the teacher, Shaikh Ayesha Parveen, from service. The parents of the Class 2 student had complained that the teacher had assigned the child the task of memorising the ‘Kalma’ and ‘Surah Fateha’ as homework. Following the incident, the school administration conducted an internal inquiry and took action based on its findings.
The service termination letter issued by the school states that not only has the teacher been removed from her post, but she will also not be appointed to any school run by the institution in the future.
Photographs of the student’s homework diary, dated 11 July 2026, went viral on social media. The entries reportedly instructed the child to “Read 1,2 Kalma” and “Read Surah Fateha” under the subject “Deeniyath”, alongside regular academic assignments in subjects such as Mathematics and Computer. The pages also bear the teacher’s signatures.

Police have confirmed that the Class 2 section consisted of 25 students, of whom 24 were Muslim and only one was Hindu. Authorities described the assignment as a violation of education policy.
Political and organisational reactions
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter, suggesting possible involvement of AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen). The party has called for the school’s recognition to be revoked.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Telangana government seeking a detailed report on the incident.
Hindu organisations have held protests and demanded that suspension alone is not sufficient; legal action must be taken against those responsible.
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) strongly opposed this incident during a discussion session organised on a TV show.
School’s position
The school management has stated that this swift action sends a clear message that any conduct contrary to the institution’s policies will not be tolerated in the educational environment. However, the school has not yet issued a detailed official clarification regarding the exact homework assigned or the circumstances surrounding it.
