Protest the labeling of peaceful Hindu protesters as ‘thugs’ in NY Times

Magh Shukla Shashthi, Kaliyug Varsha 5112

Appeal to devout Hindus

An article published in New York Times regarding the report of the Indian Art Summit held recently in New Delhi, peaceful Hindu protesters protesting against inclusion of Anti-Hindu and Anti-National painter M F Husain’s paintings in Indian Art Summit, have been labeled as ‘thugs’. New York Times has hurt sentiments of over billions of Hindus by calling Hindu protesters as ‘thugs’ and it has also glorified Anti-Hindu painter M F Husain. It is duty of all Hindus to protest lawfully against New York Times, so that it should render apology to all Hindus for hurting their religious sentiments and it should not repeat such Anti-Hindu act in the future.

Subject: Condemning the labeling of peaceful Hindu protesters as ‘thugs’ in your news article
This letter is in reference to your news article on the third India Art Summit, ‘In India, a Busy Fair and a Spirited Art Scene’ (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/31/arts/design/31summit.html?_r=1).  In this article peaceful Hindu protestors have been termed ‘thugs’, as follows : ‘And thugs threatened the exhibition of India’s most famous painter, M.F. Husain; the Hindu right has for years railed against Mr. Husain for his representations of Hindu goddesses in the nude’.

We (Hindu Janajagruti Samiti) would like to bring to your notice that M. F. Husain has hurt the religious and National sentiments of almost a billion Hindus and Indians through his blasphemous paintings of Hindu deities and Bharat Mata (Mother India). This has cuased communal disharmony and unrest throughout India. Husain has reserved perverse treatment for Hindu Deities alone, as he depicts duly clad the revered figures of other religions.

In India, M. F. Husain has been accused of committing offences under section || of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act. The court cases are still pending. In fact, Husain has been absconding from Indian court orders and arrest warrants for the past several years and recently has taken refuge in Qatar, to avoid legal proceedings.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is a registered NGO doing social, religious and national welfare work. Devoted Hindus doing voluntary charitable service have formed this Samiti. Samiti is active throughout India, imparting Hinduism education in a scientific way, peacefully campaigning against malpractices in the name of religion and resolving issues of national, religious and social importance. All our activities are peaceful, educative and within the framework of law. In fact, there has never been any untoward incident on account of our activities. You can read about our educative protest campaign against this anti India and anti Hindu painter, M. F. Husain, here : https://www.hindujagruti.org/activities/campaigns/national/mfhussain-campaign/

Considering the hurt that M. F. Husain has maliciously caused, Indian citizens in general are not keen on any exhibition, distribution or sale of his paintings. A long list of examples of rejections of his paintings in India can be seen at : https://www.hindujagruti.org/activities/campaigns/national/mfhussain-campaign/
(E.g. removal of Husain’s paintings from ABN Amro Bank’s Credit Card, NGO Khushi’s auction worth Rs. 60 million, Tao Art Gallery, India International Trade Center (New Delhi), etc.)

In the same spirit and tradition of Hinduism that is our organization’s policy, of peaceful, educative debate, we have peacefully protested against the display of Husain’s paintings at the third India Art Summit. We would like to give one proof published in the Society magazine, India, where they have clearly agreed that members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti have never threatened, never behaved like thugs ( click here to see – scanned copies of Society Magazine report) Further, we have lodged 1250 police complaints against M.F. Husain as per the law of the land. You probably realise that no thug will go to the police station and lodge complaints in legitimate way.

In view of these facts, your article, calling the peaceful Hindu protestors ‘thugs’, is baseless. This amounts to not only glorifying a miscreant like M. F. Husain, but also further hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and national sentiments of Indians. This news item has created an uproar among the Hindus and patriotic Indian citizens all over the world, and cast an aspersion on the credibility of your magazine. In fact this is a case of irresponsible journalism. We are greatly hurt and disturbed by this remark in your article; it has caused defamation to our organization worldwide.

It would be appropriate on your part to publish a written apology to Hindus and patriotic Indian citizens worldwide, and to Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, to restore the faith that the readers have in your publication.

We look forward to a prompt and positive response from you, failing which we will be compelled to initiate legal proceedings..

Sincerely,

S. G. Vatkar

Subject: NY Times Support for Islamic Painter MF Husain
To: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

The non-Islamic world should take note of your newspaper’s support and undermining of the Hindus of India in support for Islamic painter, MF Husain who gets the support of Qatar and Islamic governments in creating pornography to undermine the Hindu Deities so as to build up the Islamic religion in India!  The amazing thing is that Qatar and Islamic countries have strict rules against pornography yet support MF Husain because they recognize that his pornography is building up Islam at the expense of the Hindus!  All the Hindus you call "Thugs" have done is protest MF Husain and use their democratic rights under the constitution of India to protest government support for his ridicule of the majority Hindu religion and thereby show the Islamics that they will not just be ridiculed and disrespected!

An idea for India’s Hindus: They should publish and embellish the cartoons of a Danish writer against Muhammad who now lives in fear of Islamic terrorists killing him.  Also, the Hindus of India should distribute Satanic Verses by Salmon Rushdie who to this day has to live under house arrest in The United Kingdom where HE IS A CITIZEN for fear of certain assassination by its resident Islamics after both Iran and Saudi Arabia have encouraged their coreligionists to kill him!  If a Hindu were to directly copy the example of the Danish cartoonist, the Islamics would be screaming and putting a FATWA on them to KILL THEM while getting the Indian government to legally suppress them!

Why is it when Muslims commit threats and obscenities against other religions, there are appeals for ecumenical understanding yet when members of any religious group, be they Buddhist, Hindu or Christian respond to Islamic insults, etc, they are labeled "Thugs" by media outlets throughout the world?  The answer is obvious: The Islamics have lots of money to influence media outlets and political processes while other religions do not and are restricted by laws separating politics from religion in their countries from doing what Islamic organizations routinely do with the support of their homelands’ governments!

As a native-born American, I will publically admit to fearing the Muslims especially under President Barack Hussein Obama’s Administration who supports their interests.  It is my personal belief that in 2008, Islamic interests intervened in the US Democratic contest for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President against now Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to insure President Barack Hussein Obama won the nomination with the help of your newspaper!

A Free American!
