Bengaluru, Karnataka – Devout Hindu leader and Yuva Brigade founder Shri. Chakravarty Sulibele has issued a direct challenge to Karnataka’s Kannada and Culture Minister, Shivaraj Tangadagi, following state warnings against singing more than two stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’.

Vande Mataram is not up for negotiation.

Government order sparks row: Minister threatens action over full rendition

The standoff erupted after Karnataka’s Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi warned government officials and organisers that strict administrative action would be initiated against anyone who departs from state protocol by reciting the complete Vande Mataram.

The warning came after instances across Koppal, Belagavi, and Gadag where opposition leaders and public crowds insisted on singing all stanzas. At a ‘Praja Seva’ event in Gangavathi, local BJP MLA Janardhan Reddy played the entire version of the Vande Mataram.

Addressing this incident Minister Tangadagi stated, “The state government has issued clear directives that only two stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ are to be sung at regular state functions. Every government officer must adhere to this rule, or face strict disciplinary action. We will not operate under pressure from individuals like Janardhan Reddy, nor do we need lessons in patriotism from the BJP.”

Responding to the Minister’s enforcement threat, Chakravarty Sulibele responded by comparing the state government’s restrictions to colonial-era curbs under British rule.

He stated, “During the freedom struggle, one had to seek the Kotwal’s permission to sing ‘Vande Mataram’, which was the very breath of the movement; however, we accept this challenge. Vande Mataram is not up for negotiation. You want to threaten action for singing more than two stanzas? Try it. We sang it yesterday, we are singing it today, and we will keep singing it tomorrow, no matter what. Challenge accepted. From now on, let all stage programmes conclude only with the complete Vande Mataram. If you have the courage, take action.”
