Telugu short film director held for hurting religious sentiments

Hyderabad : Police on Thursday arrested director Sairam Dasari on charge of hurting religious sentiments through his short film ‘Devuda’.

Sairam and producer Harikumar Reddy were booked for objectionable scenes involving Shivalinga in the movie by Malkajgiri police station under the Rachakonda police commissionerate.

Police said they were on the lookout for Harikumar, who is absconding.

The police action came a few days after members of the Brahmin community met Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma to complain against the filmmakers for allegedly mocking Lord Shiva.

Bajrang Dal and some other organisations also lodged a police complaint against the producer and director.

They alleged that the film’s teaser uploaded on YouTube contains offensive acts by some of the characters.

The community had sought a ban on the movie for hurting their religious sentiments.

Sairam apologised but said he just portrayed the practices prevailing at the Kabri Manjunath temple in Karnataka.

Complaint lodged against Telugu film ‘Devuda’ for denigrating Hindu Dharma

January 12, 2017

Denigration of Deities will be stopped when Hindu Rashtra is established !

Picture for informational purpose & not to hurt sentiments

Bhagyanagar : Trailer of a Telugu film titled ‘Devuda’ was shown on You-tube few days back wherein it was observed that there was denigration of Hindu Dharma and Deities in this film. Few devout Hindus have therefore, filed a complaint with Officer In-charge of Narayanguda police station at Bhagyanagar; demanding to file cases against the producer and director of the film under sections 120-B, 268, 295, 295-A and 296 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

It was seen in the trailer that Bhagavan Vyankateshwar’s idol was banged on the floor, beer was used for doing ‘abhishek’ on ‘Shiva-linga’ and cigarette was lighted with ‘Dhoop-stick’. From the trailer therefore, it seems that there must be severe denigration of Hindu Dharma and Deities and one gets a feeling that the film has been made only to provoke Hindus’ religious sentiments. Such act is punishable under IPC; therefore, stringent legal action should be immediately taken against the film’s producer and director, says the complaint with a request to treat the same also as FIR.
