Mapusa – Hindu organizations had staged demonstrations in Mapusa at the main gate of the Municipal Market, the place of worship of Shri Ganesh, under the banner of National Hindu Movement, on 14th May in the evening. This is a part of the Rashtriya Hindu Andolan all over the country. Demands were made to conserve the Goan culture by removing ‘Casinos’, take decisions concerning Hindu religious traditions and customs by consulting spiritual guides of Dharma (Dharmacharyas) and Shankaracharyas instead of disregarding the thousand years old traditions and customs in order to appease the progressive people asking for the entry of women in the sanctum of Hindu temples, take action on those for insulting the martyrs, revolutionaries Bhagatsingh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Suryasen etc. by calling them ‘Terrorists’ in the books of Delhi University.

Demonstrations commenced after offering a coconut to the Deity of the place and blowing a conch shell. Mr. Govind Chodankar explained the purpose of the demonstration on behalf of Rashtriya Hindu Andolan. Thereafter devout Hindus addressed the gathering. Common grievance among all those speakers was that casinos were responsible to encourage gambling tendencies due to cherishing craving for fast buck effortlessly and citizens become gamblers. This gives rise to prostitution, alcoholism, teasing of women, black money, crimes, creating wrong impressions on young generation, destruction of families and destroying the social fabric. Devoute Hindus also protested against the industrialist Adi Godrej for supporting consumption of beef, an act against Dharma and consumption of liquor, an antisocial act. At the same time they have made a demand that he should apologize publicly for hurting Hindus’ religious sentiments. In connection to the release of Sadhvi Pragya Singh and 4 others held in captivity for several years as suspects in the Malegaon bomb blasts, demand was made to give severe punishment to those police and leaders giving inhuman treatment by booking Sadhvi Pragya Singh and many other innocent devout Hindus under various crimes unnecessarily for several years. When the country is suffering from severe problems like ‘Love jihad’, insecure ladies, suicides by farmers, corruption, unemployment, crimes etc. so called progressive ladies are giving priority to issues like climbing the platform at ‘Shani’ temple in Maharashtra, demanding an entry into sanctums of temples at Trimbakeshwar and Kolhapur, starting agitation to gain entry into ‘Shabarimala’ temple in Kerala etc. These agitations commenced by Bhumata Brigade are for political gain and are mere publicity stunts. Historical events connected with revolutionaries sacrificing their lives for the nation should be incorporated in the syllabus of schools so that students are inspired thereby taking these revolutionaries as their models. Mr. Jayesh Thali put the resolutions before the gathering and Mr. Shailesh Behre welcomed and compered on the occasion. Dr Manoj Solanki, for Rashtriya Hindu Andolan.

Organisations participating in the movement – Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Sanatan  Sanstha, Ranaragini branch, Gomantak Mandir and Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangh,
