Issue about levy of ‘Jizia’ on Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan
Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra): ‘Jihadi Talibanis’ from Pakistan extracted money from Hindus and Sikhs living in Pakistan by levying ‘Jizia’ tax on them. All Sikh Organizations and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) have strongly condemned this happening and have demanded, through a circular issued by them, that United Nations Organization (UNO) and Indian Government should look into the matter, pressurize the Pakistan Government and justice be made to the minorities living in that country. The circular has been signed by Shri. Ramesh Shinde, spokesperson of HJS for the State of Maharashtra, Shri. Harchand Singh Saggu, Chief of Sree Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, New Panvel and Shri. Abhay Vartak, spokesperson of Sanatan Sanstha.
It has become very difficult for Hindus and Sikhs to live there due to oppression by ‘talibanis’ in Pakistan that is supposed to be a democratic country. Many are coming to India leaving everything behind. This is against the human rights but why are Pakistan, India and the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) keeping mum on this issue, asks the circular.
In Aurakzai in Pakistan, ‘talibanis’ have extracted Rs. 2 crores by way of ‘Jizia tax’ for release of Shri. Saivand Singh, a Sikh leader. The minorities are under a lot of tension due to such terrorism by ‘talibanis’. HJS has, therefore, demanded that Indian Government should take initiative and immediately provide protection to Hindus and Sikhs from Pakistan. HJS proposes to write to UNO, Indian and Pakistani Government in this connection.
