VHP asks Kerala govt. to cancel decision to honour Hussain

Kochi (Kerala): The VHP urged the Kerala government to cancel its decision to confer the ‘Raja Ravi Varma’ award on anti-Hindu painter M F Husain.

Talking to reporters here, VHP Secretary General Praveen Togadia alleged that the government was "insulting" the Hindu community by selecting Husain, who had portrayed the Hindu gods and goddesses in a bad light through his paintings, for the award.

Raja Ravi Varma had done his best to respect Hindu gods and goddesses through his paintings, he said.

Alleging that the government was trying to take control of the administration of temples, he said this is "clear interference" in Hindu religious matters and against constitutional norms.

S Vedantam, VHP’s All-India Working President, BJP leader, O Rajagopal and Kummanam Rajashekharan, VHP’s Kerala Vice-President, were among those present.
