Dangers of Studying in Convent School

Dear Sir,

I went through the paintings of Hussain depicting Hindu gods in an obscene manner. Does he have the guts to paint Mohammed Paigambar nude? or Jesus Christ nude? It is possible only on Hindus because we are tolerant. Any body can write anything on Hindus and get away with it. I think Hindus should change their attitude, being tolerant is fine but we have to protective about our religion too.

The Christian Missionaries run schools throughout the country and teach our children their religion. They degrade Hindus in convents. They will not allow girls to wear bindis and bangles in their schools. But we happily send our children to their schools only to ensure that our children lose faith in our religion and tradition. Following is my own experience. Please read on.

I studied in St. Joseph’s Convent in Chikmagalur in Karnataka from 1970 to 1976. I was known as the brightest boy in the school both in curricular and extra curricular activities. I never spared 1st rank to any one, right from 1st standard to 6th standard. I was attending all prayers in the Church and also singing their religious songs beautifully. At this juncture, when I was in 6th standard, I came across a ‘Satsang’ which was popularising Sai Baba in Chikmagalur. I joined this Satsang (known as Balavikas Kendra) and started attending religious discourses on Sundays. Influenced by this, I started singing Shlokas on Hindu Gods during assembly in the school, which was noticed by the Head Mistress easily due to my fast lip movement. I also stopped attending prayers in Churches, which was a compulsory one.

The result was simple. I lost 1st rank immediately and came down to 4th rank. I was harassed like hell in the school. I was punished in front of everybody for nothing. The biggest one came one day. Somebody wrote on the school compound about some teachers of the school in an obscene manner. That’s it. Same day I was caught as soon as I reached school in the morning. I was punished horribly. I was asked to name the others. When I have not even seen what was written on the wall, how can I say who wrote it? The Head Mistress could get some more students. Finally after 3-4 days of gruelling punishment under the hot sun, the Head Mistress gave a format of apology letter to all of us. We were asked to copy the same in individual sheets and signed on it. The apology letter may be found in the school record even now. The irony was that the real culprits were traced only next year. They were from 7th Standard and by the time it was leaked out, all the culprits were in different schools studying 8th standard. None of the culprits continued in the same school, fearing that the true thing will be revealed some day.

The next year I was in 7th Standard and almost everyday I was forcing my parents to put me in some other school. Everyday was a testing time for me. By God’s grace my father was transferred to Mysore and I was very happy. But the Head Mistress was not giving Transfer Certificate to me. Simple reason was that if I stayed back in the school, they could expect a rank in the public examination. She even offered me a free food and stay in the boarding. But when I refused to continue in the school, she gave me the Transfer Certificate.

I am not to good writer and hence you can see a very long and probably boring true story. I request you to kindly summarise/edit the above and publish in your web, so that others can learn the danger of studying in convent schools.

Best regards,
