HJS demands police protection for Hindu temples

By Staff Reporter

Amaravati: Incidents of maniacs desecrating Hindu deities are on the rise. With Police dillydallying investigations all Hindu temples should be provided police protection, was the demand made on behalf of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) through a representation submitted to Shri. Krushna Prakash, the Superintendent of Police [SP] (Rural). A copy of the representation was also sent to the CM and Dy CM of Maharashtra.

In Amaravati district, Ramesh Ganesh Botare, a ‘Dharma-drohi’ from Varud village desecrated the idol of Bhavani Devi by cutting off the head of the idol. In another incident, an unknown person desecrated an idol of Lord Hanuman. In the second incident, the culprit has not been nabbed even after 15 days.

There have been increasing incidents of damage to idols such as that of Lord Hanuman in Nagpur, desecration of an idol in Lakshmi-Narayan temple in Gadchiroli, removal of eyes of Hanuman idol in Armori village, kicking of a Hanuman idol and shouting ‘Allah Ho Akbar’ slogans in Aurangabad, etc.

The Government should investigate why such incidents are taking place only in the case of Hindu places of worship. The Government will be totally responsible for the situation in case of an uprising by over-tolerant Hindus. The offenders should therefore, be arrested immediately, severely punished and measures be taken to prevent such incidents in future, says the representation. The SP has, however, shown inability of the Department to provide police protection at each and every temple.

HJS members suggested that police can keep a vigil at temples with the help of locals. The SP assured to put forth the suggestion in a meeting with his colleagues. Members of HJS and Sanatan Sanstha were present on the occasion.

(Had it happened in case of Muslims’ place of worship, Muslims would have attacked the police station. Police are taking an advantage of over-tolerant Hindus. Such incompetent police should be removed as they are a burden on the Hindu tax-payer. Police can provide a squad of staff for protection of politicians; but have problem in providing personnel for protection of temples!- Editor)
